Today we talked about differences in people. Different people will creative a different environment. Everyone responds to certain situations differently. Mr. Sweeny challenged us to create the type of learning environment that we want. A little later in class, he put on a video. It was a bunch of guys passing balls around. We had to focus the best we could and try to count how many passes were made. I got the answer right the first time. Many of my classmates didn’t catch all the passes at first but once the video was played again they saw them all.
I have learned that there are two types of learning. You have verbal learning which is like debate or listening and giving feedback. If you don’t understand, ask. Then you have nonverbal learning which includes eye contact, visuals, and silent acknowledgements. If a person is telling you something and you nod your head in a "yes" motion, that lets them know you understand what they are talking about.
Nowadays, there are a lot of problems in this world. Some we can control, some we cannot. But one thing that can solve a lot of problems is communication. Us as people do not communicate well and it can cause confusion. If we have a problem, let it be known. That does not mean speak out disrespectfully. You have to know what to say, when to say it, and how to say it. There is a time and place for everything. Learn how to talk to people. Communication is a big part of being successful in life! You will have to be able to talk to people basically anywhere you go. Communication is key.
I enjoyed today’s class period. We talked about Logical errors versus facts & opinions. Don’t just speak out without any reasoning or thought behind what you are saying. If you say something ignorant or absurd, a lot of times you will find yourself regretting what you said. A great example of just talking out without good logic is Allen Iverson’s "practice" speech. He hurt himself in the long run because he made it known that he thought very little of practice and that it wasn’t important to him. Always think before you speak!
Today’s class was cool. We talked about a lot of different ways to get the most out of right now. The four ways to get the most results out of study time is when to study, where, getting focused when you start studying, and stuff that keep you focused. If you think too hard about them then it may be too much for you.
Goals in life are important in many ways. Goals are kind of that thing that keeps you focused. If you are truly determined to achieve them then they will be a great tool to keep yourself on task. Along with goals, you must have motivation. It doesn’t matter where the motivation comes from. Whether it is someone, something, or just within yourself, it is something good to have! Stay positive at all times!
Today was a very positive day. I did a lot of think today in class about my future as we talked about what it takes to reach our goals. I want to be a school administrator when I get out of school. That is why I am majoring in education. I will have to go back to school after I graduate. Work as hard as possible so you never find yourself having to depend on someone else. Because then you find yourself taking the victim stance like Mr. Sweeny said.
First Blog
The first day of class went very well. Mr. Sweeny introduced himself to the class. A couple of my classmates introduced themselves as well. We talked about the different things we were going to learn, the course syllabus, and we also discussed classroom atmosphere. Mr. Sweeny told us that everyone in the class was equal and that he wouldn’t put himself above anyone else.
First day back from the snow days. Mr. Sweeny was different from the other teachers because there were trying to rush things. Such as test, homework, and quizzes. But in our class today, we just review on the stuff we missed and he said go read a couple of page from the book so our minds can still be fresh.
